For many years, the serious study of Anglo-Saxon history required literacy in both Latin and Old English, as most of the primary sources were written in one of the two languages – or both, in some cases. Whilst a detailed analysis of the source material will still require some proficiency in the two languages, there is now a sizeable corpus of Anglo-Saxon material that has been translated in modern English – I am much indebted the existence of these translations myself. The present handlist offers only the hagiographical sources that I have encountered in translation so far, but I hope to build a database of all Anglo-Saxon primary sources over time.
